It is hard to give quite a perfect definition of what the original writing is. We would rather explain it in the following way.
 
The original writing courseworks may be of several types. The first one requires a student to explore some topic. The second one is called to entertain the readers. The third type allows the author to combine two previous. To put it more plainly, original writing consists in creating a piece of writing which could be published.
 
The original writing coursework does not force you to look for the additional information, which could be a background basis of your coursework. It is quite enough just to develop an idea, which suddenly appeared in your brain. That is to write about what you already know. However, the original writing coursework has to be unusual, different from everyone else’s works, ‘original’.
 
Some educational institutions require their students to present the original writing courseworks in their own handwriting, which is also very unusual. The length of original writing is normally unlimited. But you should not make it either too long, or too short.
 
You may write in any genre you like. However, it is preferable to use the genres which suit the middle-length writing, such as a fairy tale, a monologue, a soap opera scene etc. Try to choose some genre that will help you demonstrate your writing skills in the best way. If you do not feel like writing a fiction, try to choose some other genre. Remember that there is no limit, as well.
 
The only standard requirement for the original writing courseworks is that it should be revised and edited before submitting it. Everything else depends on you. So, try to create the most original writing, and you will surely succeed in doing it.
