Dissertation Citation – What Should You Know about It?

Many students are irritated by dissertation citations and do not get the sense of using it in their work. I will have to upset you. Dissertation citation is an obligatory requirement and if you do not follow this requirement, your dissertation will not be approved.

Actually, dissertation citation is quite a useful thing. All the ideas and points of view that you introduce in your dissertation should be based on particular information and readers have to know what sources were used and where this information can be found (someone might get interested in the topic of your dissertation). I can even say that dissertation citation is the evidence of your hard work. So, there is no way of omitting dissertation citation.

You should know that there are different types of citation and you will have to choose the one that suits your work best. We will tell you about the most common types of dissertation citation.

  1. APA style of dissertation citation. This style is used for the dissertations that deal with Social Sciences. Here you should point the name of the author and dates.
  2. MLA style of dissertation citation is used for all works that are written on Humanities. Here, for instance, you should use abbreviations for all months except June, July and August. Naturally, there are many others rules for this kind of dissertation citation.

  1. Chicago style of dissertation citation. This style is used for the works on different sciences and has its own special requirements, which you can find in the Chicago Manual of Style.

Still there are some general requirements for all styles of dissertation citations. For instance, you should use double spaces in the whole text. The list of references should be arranged in alphabetic order. You should print citations in italics.

Keep in mind that you have to decide, which style of dissertation citation fits your dissertation or you will be forced to re-do the whole work.
